Hope, Fowler among injured Titans back for OTAs

The Tennessee Titans went through organized team activities on Friday and had several players who finished last year on injured reserve back and participating fully on the practice field.

Chief among them was strong safety Chris Hope, whose season ended last November because of a spine injury suffered against the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Chris is here six hours a day, five days a week. He’s really excited about being back and having that put behind him,” Titans coach Jeff Fisher said.

Hope didn’t have his usual running partner at free safety this week as last year’s first-round pick Michael Griffin was excused while taking finals at the University of Texas.

In addition to Hope, linebacker Ryan Fowler, who was injured against Kansas City last December, was back on the practice field as well, though Fisher said his surgically repaired right shoulder would not be up for contact at the current time, but that he is fine for non-contact OTA drills.

As well, tight end Bo Scaife, who lacerated his liver against the Indianapolis Colts in the regular-season finale, was back on the practice field and participating fully.

EXCUSED: Several Titans players were not at the Friday session because of being excused for personal reasons, including kicker Rob Bironas, defensive end Bryce Fisher, defensive tackle Antonio Johnson and defensive back Chris Carr. Albert Haynesworth was not present because he has been given the franchise tag and has not yet signed his tender.

INJURIES: Receiver Roydell Williams will be out for a couple of more weeks, according to Fisher. Williams is still recovering from a broken right ankle that required surgery to insert a plate and screws.

Others held out of Friday’s work included defensive ends Kyle Vanden Bosch (tight hamstrings), Jacob Ford (Achilles), long snapper Ken Amato (knee) and defensive lineman Dave Ball (foot).

Man, when I read the headline, I thought it meant they were injured during OTAs. Deep breath.
