Vanderbilt center Stephanie Holzer will miss the entire season because of a dislocated knee she sustained Saturday in an exhibition game.

The 6-foot-4 junior banged her left knee against an Alabama-Huntsville player with nine minutes left in the first half and was taken from the court on a stretcher.

She led Vanderbilt in rebounding the last two years. Last season, she averaged 7.5 rebounds in addition to 11 points a game and was named All-SEC honorable mention.

Injury is not new to Holzer, who redshirted the 2009-10 season and has undergone seven surgeries on her right leg since sixth grade.

“It’s a heartbreaking loss for Steph and for us,” Vanderbilt coach Melanie Balcomb said. “She was in the best shape physically she’s been in and we just feel for her right now. The whole team is going to have to step-up, but right now, our hearts are going out for Steph.”

The 16th-ranked Commodores open the regular season against McNeese (La.) State at noon on Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium.
