Lipscomb softball player named Academic All-American

Lipscomb’s Kellie Sirus was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America softball first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced Wednesday.

The junior first baseman/third baseman was the only non-senior among the 11 members of the university division first team.

Sirus, a native of Sarasota, Fla., is a psychology major with a 3.92 grade-point average.

She led the Lady Bisons and was fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a .420 average and was among the conference leaders in home runs, RBIs, doubles and total bases. She was named all-conference and all-tournament first team.

She also is a three-time member of the Atlantic Sun All-Academic team.

To be eligible for Academic All-American consideration a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a 3.3 or higher GPA (out of 4.0) and be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
