Media makes guesses on Titans’ pick

The picks and opinions of what the Tennessee Titans should do when pick No. 24 rolls around in the NFL Draft on Saturday are quite varied.

The City Paper polled various media members who have a familiarity with the Titans and asked them for their prognosis. Their answers were as different as the many options the club faces when that pick rolls around.

Frank Wycheck, former Titans tight end and morning co-host on 104.5 The Zone: Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina. “He’s a playmaker. He’ll fit well and be brought in to be a change-up guy to LenDale White.”

Darren McFarland, afternoon co-host on 104.5 The Zone: DeSean Jackson, WR, California. “They need help at receiver and a playmaker on special teams.”

Mark Howard, morning co-host on 104.5 The Zone: Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida. “Because like pitching, you can never have enough good cornerbacks.”

Chris Sanders, former Titans receiver and contributor to local radio/television: Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas. “If Felix Jones is there, I would take him. If you look at Titans’ roster, you have LenDale White and Chris Henry [at running back]. LenDale White can get you that 5-6 yards grinding. Felix Jones would be that home run hitter in the backfield.”

John McClain, Houston Chronicle and 104.5 The Zone: DeSean Jackson, WR, California. “I think Devin Thomas will be gone by that point, and I don’t think they’ll take a running back with a high pick three years in a row. At some point, they have to get Vince Young some weapons, because if they don’t, it’s like having a Ferrari with a Volkswagen engine in it.”

George Plaster, afternoon host on 104.5 The Zone: Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas. “They need some explosive athletic ability, and he fits that bill. They need somebody that can get big chunks of yardage, and he can do that.”

Teresa Walker, Associated Press: DeSean Jackson, WR, California. “He has the type of speed and explosiveness they need.”

Kevin Ingram, morning co-host on 104.5 The Zone: Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina. “The Titans have holes to fill on the defensive line and seems like a guy that could help them. They need someone who can catch the ball, and DeSean Jackson can do that. But he might be a reach. Limas Sweed is good, but he might be a little overrated.”

Willy Daunic, afternoon co-host on 104.5 The Zone: DeSean Jackson, WR, California. “The Titans need someone who is a threat to score from anywhere on the field.”

Cory Curtis, sports director for WKRN-TV Channel 2: Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas. “Speed and touchdowns.”

Hope Hines, sports director for WTVF-TV Channel 5: Limas Sweed, WR, Texas. “The Titans obviously need somebody for Vince Young to be able to hook up with and that he can count on and is a big target. Quarterback is the most important position on the offense, but he’s also got to have a dot to connect to.”

Paul Jones, sports director for WZTV-TV Channel 17: Limas Sweed, WR, Texas. “I don’t think Bud Adams can help himself with those Texas guys. And they have to get a wide receiver for Vince Young.”

I think they should throw darts at names on the board. They could not work any worse than their previous nine drafts.
