Minor will start but won't finish for Vanderbilt tonight

Monday, June 1, 2009 at 2:49pm

Mike Minor will be Vanderbilt’s starting pitcher in today’s decisive game of the Louisville Regional.

It will be the second appearance of the weekend for the junior left-hander, who pitched all eight innings Friday in a 5-4 loss to Middle Tennessee State University. He threw 134 pitches in that contest.

As part of his regular training and maintenance regimen, Minor is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today. Instead, he now will get that work during the contest.

He is not expected to remain in the game for more than two or three innings, depending on his pitch count.

Once he comes out, VU will have a wealth of options. Three relief pitchers have logged a total of just four innings in four regional games.

The Commodores will face host Louisville at 6 p.m. (CDT). The winner will advance to a best-of-three Super Regional at Fullerton State, the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA tournament field.

For the season, Minor has a 6-5 record with a 3.79 ERA for the season. He has a team-high three complete games – all in his last four starts.
