Montgomery Bell Academy named Marty Euverard its new head football coach, the school announced Friday morning.

He replaces Daniel McGugin, who resigned last month after recent controversy that erupted at the west side prep school over financial assistance various MBA parents provided to a student athlete's family in 2008.

In an email announcing the move, headmaster Bradford Gioia said Euverard “Fits our profile for a great man, teacher, and coach,” and “His care for young people, the classroom and football will bring excitement to the MBA campus and community.”

Euverard has an extensive history in Middle Tennessee, including six years at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, where he won the 1998 Class 5A state championship.

Last January he was named head coach at Battle Ground Academy. He also coached at Cheatham County, Cherokee, Ryan and Clarksville high schools.

He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University.

This is a very good hire for MBA. He is a good coach and did a geat job at BGA last year. Good luck to the Big Red next year.

Now if the Headmaster and the A.D. will both resign, it will be a great day for MBA.

Actually it would seem that the AD and Headmaster are both doing pretty good jobs if they managed to hire such a good coach so quickly. All of the late unpleasantness should blow over pretty quickly now that a replacement has been hired.

I would guess that there is not a "qualified" coach in middle Tennessee that would not love to have the MBA job.
