Middle Tennessee ended a six-game losing streak dating back to last season by walloping Florida International 47-6 at Floyd Stadium on Saturday.
The Blue Raiders (1-4, 1-1 Sun Belt) opened the season by losing their first four games, including a heartbreaking defeat to Western Kentucky in their home opener the week before.
Against the Panthers, however, MTSU was on its game. The Blue Raiders scored all 47 of their points in the first half to extend FIU’s losing streak to a nation’s worst 17 games.
Freshman quarterback Dwight Dasher, making just his second start, led the way for MTSU. Dasher went 10-of-17 for 240 yards and three passing touchdowns in addition to 58 rushing yards and two more touchdowns.
Dasher was under center for the second straight week because starter Joe Craddock was out with an injury. It stands to reason MTSU coach Rick Stockstill will have a tough decision to make as to who to play next week when the Blue Raiders host Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia.
DeMarco McNair produced two touchdowns for the Blue Raiders – one rushing and one receiving.
FIU (0-5, 0-1) last won two years ago against MTSU, but the Panthers didn’t even get on the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.
