Middle Tennessee State senior Jason Millard bounced back from a poor first round and shot a 1-under par, 71 second round at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship on Wednesday at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

After shooting a 4-over on Tuesday, Millard moved up from a tie for 75th to a 10-way tie for 36th with just one round remaining. He will tee off the third and final round at 2:10 p.m. on Thursday.

“Jason played a real solid round [Wednesday] and bounced back like I thought he would,” MTSU golf coach Whit Turnbow said. “He is so close to shooting a low score but I am very proud of the way he is fighting. It should be a fun day Thursday.”

Millard is 3-over, eight strokes back of leader of John Peterson of LSU. He is just three strokes from the top 15, which would earn him All-American honors.

Millard, a Murfreesboro native, finished 18th as a freshman in 2008 — the only other time he has reached the national tournament.

He birdied four holes on Wednesday, making up for three bogeys. Three of his seven birdies in the two days have come on par 3s. He bogeyed hole No. 16 before saving par on the 17th hole and recording a birdie on the par-5 18th hole.
