Barry Trotz will not have to retool the bulk of his coaching staff after all.
Reports out of Dallas on Monday cited numerous sources and said that Glen Gulutzan would be named the next head coach of the Dallas Stars. The official announcement was expected later in the week, pending the completion of contract details.
Nashville Predators assistant Peter Horachek interviewed for that job a couple weeks earlier. He also interviewed with the Florida Panthers, who hired someone else.
Last week, Nashville hired Lane Lambert as an assistant coach to fill the role of associate head coach Brent Peterson, who will be reassigned for health reasons. Lambert, the head coach of the Milwaukee Admirals the past four seasons, became the first new face on the coaching staff since Horachek replaced Paul Gardner in 2003.
Goalie coach Mitch Korn also was retained last week.
The decision by Dallas, therefore, means that 75 percent of the coaching staff will return for 2011-12.
Gulutzan has been the coach of Dallas’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Texas Stars, for the past two seasons.
