Predators bring back pair of youngsters after brief AHL stint

The Nashville Predators recalled center Blake Geoffrion and defenseman Jonathon Blum on Monday following a three-game stint for each at Milwaukee.

Blum scored two goals and Geoffrion had a pair of assists as the Admirals went 2-1-0 in contests Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which were their final games until after Christmas. Milwaukee was not scheduled to play again until Dec. 26.

The pair flew with the team to Washington, D.C., where the Predators will play the Capitals on Tuesday (6 p.m., Fox Sports-Tennessee).

“We were hoping to re-start [Blum], keep playing him and not [have him] lose confidence,” coach Barry Trotz said. “Blake Geoffrion’s situation was plain and simple: I wanted to get him started. I don’t think he’s played particularly great this year and he got injured.”

Geoffrion missed six games from Nov. 29 through Dec. 10 with an upper body injury. He also missed time in training camp and the preseason with an injury and had just two assists in 19 games.

He was reassigned to Milwaukee last Tuesday after being activated from the injured list.

“You don’t not make the team if you get injured with the team,” Trotz said. “Hopefully he’s got a little bit traction. … If he doesn’t then maybe we revisit it and he gets more traction down there.”

Blum was sent down a day earlier than Geoffrion after having been a healthy scratch in two straight contests. He had five points (two goals, three assists), including one game-winning goal, but was a minus-11 in the first 27 contests.

“They’ll be able to play [against] Washington,” Trotz said.
