Staff reports

Nashville Predators’ defenseman Shea Weber missed out on All-Star recognition by the thinnest of margins.

Weber finished fifth among defensemen in voting by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. He was one point behind San Jose’s Dan Boyle.

The top two vote-getters, Washington’s Mike Green and Boston’s Zdeno Chara, earned first-team recognition and the next two, Detroit’s Niklas Lidstrom and Boyle, were named to the second team.

Weber earned a total of 172 points. He was listed first on four ballots, second on 36 and third on 44. Each first-place vote was worth five points, each second-place vote was worth three and each third-place vote was worth one.

Boyle was listed first on half as many ballots as Weber (two), but was listed second on 40 and third on 43 for 173 points.
