With the NHL’s trade deadline approaching Wednesday, one Nashville Predators’ player was headed out of town – but not via trade.

The Edmonton Oilers claimed second-year forward Ryan Jones off waivers.

Jones, who signed a two-year contract for $975,000 per season last August, had 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in 41 games this season. He spent the first part of 2009-10 in the minors.

He originally was acquired by Nashville along with a second-round pick in the most recent draft from Minnesota for defenseman Marek Zidlicky following a four-year college career at the University of Miami (Ohio).

Last season, his first as a professional, he had 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 46 games with Nashville and 22 points (13 goals, nine assists) in 25 games with Milwaukee.
