David Legwand had a goal and two assists as the Nashville Predators defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 in an NHL preseason game on Friday.
The victory was the Predators’ second in as many nights. It also was the second straight night in which their top line produced as expected.
The trio of Legwand, Mike Santorelli and Martin Erat combined for seven points as Nashville’s No. 1 unit. Santorelli had a goal and an assist, and Erat had two assists.
In Thursday’s 5-0 victory over Atlanta, Jason Arnott, Steve Sullivan and J.P. Dumont combined for five points.
Carolina scored the first goal – on the power play – with 2:50 to play in the first period. Santorelli evened things 58 seconds later, and Legwand put the Nashville ahead to stay at 3:20 of the second when he scored unassisted.
Defenseman Dan Hamhuis made it 3-1, with assists from Santorelli and Erat. Legwand added an assist on Peter Olvecky’s goal with 16 seconds remaining.
Pekka Rinne started in goal and allowed one goal on 11 shots in 31:36.
The Predators will play their third game in as many nights when they face Columbus, 7 p.m. Saturday at Sommet Center.
