Predators release preseason schedule

The Nashville Predators’ six-game preseason schedule this fall will be played out in two parts.

The first half will feature three games in three nights, two of them at home. Then the final three will happen at a rate more consistent with the regular season.

“The first three games will give us a really good opportunity to evaluate some of our young players and those who are fighting for jobs,” coach Barry Trotz said. “For the last three, there will be a couple days in between so you have the opportunity to practice a little and then play.”

The initial schedule released by the team on Tuesday had the Predators playing both Carolina and Columbus on Sept. 18. Trotz said that was not the case.

Training camp officially will open Sept. 12 and the first on-ice workout will take place the following day. The preseason opener will be Sept. 17 at home against Atlanta. That will be followed immediately by games at Carolina (Sept. 18) and at home against Columbus (Sept. 19).

The Predators then will face those same three teams over six-day period beginning Sept. 23.

A pair of rookie scrimmages with the Atlanta Thrashers (Sept. 14 and 15 in Duluth, Ga.) will precede official preseason contests as part of the Predators’ rookie camp, which will commence Sept. 8.

“That young group will stay together for the first few days of training camp,” Trotz said. “That will give our veterans an opportunity to get in a lot of good work, and then we’ll work in some of our younger players and prospects and see how they fit in.”

Tickets for preseason contests will go on sale on a yet-to-be determined date in September.
