Nashville Predators forward Jordin Tootoo was given a five-game suspension Monday afternoon by the National Hockey League for an altercation Saturday night with Dallas Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas.

Late in the third period of the 3-2 Nashville win, Tootoo checked Dallas forward Mike Modano into the boards. Both players fell to the ice. Modano responded by hitting Tootoo across the back with his stick. Tootoo got up to return to the play and hit Robidas in the jaw with his gloved fist as he charged in to retaliate for the Modano check.

David Poile, vice-president/general manager of the Predators, said he was very disappointed by the decision. There is an appeal process, but the Predators will not pursue it.

"We'll take our medicine," Poile said.
