Forward Patric Hornqvist was recalled from Milwaukee on Tuesday and will be with the Nashville Predators on Wednesday when they play at Anaheim (9 p.m., CDT).
Forward Wade Belak was sent home for evaluation of a lower body injury, which caused him to miss Monday’s 4-3 victory at Los Angeles. Belak, second on the team in penalty minutes, was unable to finish the morning skate on Monday and was scratched from the game that night.
Belak has not been placed on the injured list, which means Hornqvist’s recall is on an emergency basis.
“(Belak) has a pre-existing injury that he sort of re-aggravated during the skate,” coach Barry Trotz said. “We’ll definitely miss him against Anaheim and (Thursday) against San Jose. They’re both teams that have some toughness.”
Hornqvist does not offer the same type of physical presence as Belak. He has been with the Predators twice previously this season. He has appeared in a total of 20 games and has registered seven points (two goals, five assists).
The 22-year-old had an eight-game goal streak in the AHL, which ended on March 11. In 47 games with the Admirals he has registered 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists).
J.P Dumont was shaken up late in Monday’s contest but is expected to play at Anaheim, which trails the Predators by five points. The Ducks have lost four of their last five.
“I went and watched Anaheim on Sunday,” Trotz said. “They look like they’re playing well to me. They’ve just had some bad luck lately.”
Captain Jason Arnott, who has missed the last three games did not practice Tuesday and is doubtful for Wednesday’s contest.
