Sergei Kostitsyn had two points against the Detroit Red Wings for the second time in five days as Nashville once again defeated its Central Division rival, this time 4-1 Wednesday at Joe Louis Arena.

It was the first time in 37 games and 10 victories all-time that Nashville won by more than one goal on Detroit’s home ice.

Kostitsyn had a goal and an assist and raised his season point total to 32 (15 goals, 17 assists) and his career total to 100 (39 goals, 61 assists).

He leads all Nashville forwards in scoring and is second on the team to captain Shea Weber, who had an assist.

Kostitsyn has recorded multiple points three times in the last five games. He had two goals Saturday when the Predators defeated the Red Wings 3-0 at Bridgestone Arena.

His power play goal at 10:26 of the second period put the Predators ahead 4-0 and prompted Detroit coach Mike Babcock to change goalies. Kostitsyn also had the secondary assist on Martin Erat’s goal 3:09 into the contest, which started the scoring.

Marcel Goc had the primary assist on Erat’s goal but sustained an upper-body injury before the end of the first period and did not return. He played just 5:01.

David Legwand and Colin Wilson also scored for the Predators.

Nashville’s four goals came on 16 shots against starting goalie Jimmy Howard. Joey McDonald, who replaced him, stopped all 14 shots he saw.

Ruslan Salei ended Pekka Rinne’s shutout bid when he scored with 3:58 to play in the second period. Rinne made 34 saves as Nashville was outshot 35-30.

The Predators have won three of four against the Red Wings this season. They guaranteed that for the fourth time in seven years, they would do no worse than split the season series with the Red Wings.

Their two best games sandwiched around their worst. What a ride we have endured this year. But I am hoping for a better result this Spring. First place?

We have to catch the Wings first, joe. As schizophrenic as this team is, who knows. We just added Fisher (Lombardi done for the year?), so at least we're positioning ourselves well.

I'd still like to get rid of Erat and Dumont.
