Barry Trotz does not have anything better to do in the next couple weeks.
The Nashville Predators coach will be an assistant coach with Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Championships, which begin next week in Finland and Sweden.
Trotz and Dallas Stars coach Dave Tippett were added to the staff Saturday. Former Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff was previously was named head coach.
Ruff, with Trotz and Tippett on his staff, led Canada to a silver medal at the 2009 World Championships. Trotz also was an assistant in 2002 and 2003, the second of which Canada won.
The fourth member of the staff is Doug Shedden.
The tournament begins Friday. Canada, which will be based in Sweden, plays its first game next Saturday against Denmark.
Nashville’s season ends Saturday night when it plays at Columbus (6 p.m., Fox Sports-Tennessee). The Predators have been eliminated from playoff contention after having been to the postseason seven times in the last eight seasons.
