Overton, off to its best start since 2002, is taking control of the District 12-AAA race after a 21-7 league win at McGavock Friday.

If The Bobcats (6-0, 2-0) can beat Antioch and Hunters Lane the next two weeks, they claim the title.

FRA impressive

Franklin Road Academy held high-scoring Zion Christian to by far its lowest point total of the season in a 35-7 win in Columbia Saturday. Doug Page rushed for 141 yards and three TDs. FRA (4-2) hosts Ravenwood (2-4) Friday in a game to be televised by CSS-TV (Comcast Ch. 27).

Snedeker appearance

Former MBA and Vanderbilt star, PGA golfer Brandt Snedeker will make a special appearance at the 18th annual Our Kids Klassic tournament Thursday at Vanderbilt Legends course in Franklin.

An 8 a.m. shotgun start opens the tourney, and Snedekcr will give a demonstration. To register on-line, go to www.ourkidscenter.com.

Mullins, Smith honored

Father Ryan’s Ellen Mullins, a UT commitment, and Page High’s Nicole Smith, a Notre Dame commitment, have both been named to the national “Senior Aces,’’ listing the top 250 high school players on prepvolleyball.com.

Mullins was named tournament MVP as Ryan won its fifth straight Irish Volleyball Invitational recently, coming through with a straight-game victory over St. Benedict in the finals. Ryan’s Kelsey Towns and Shannon Carr also made all-tourney.

Maplewood best 4-3 team?

The best 4-3 team in the state may be Maplewood’s Panthers, who have lost to MBA 31-28 on a late rally, to 6A Hunters Lane and to 6A powerhouse Ooltewah.

State golf

The DII State golf tournament will be held at Murfreesboro’s Old Fort Park Tuesday and Wednesday. The Pope JPII boys and the BGA girls had the lowest scores in the DII-AA region tourney. The DCA boys and girls are strong threats in DII-A.
