Staff reports

The entire Region 6-AAA basketball tournament will be held at Brentwood High, beginning with Friday’s quarterfinal games.

Unlike most other regions where quarterfinal contests will be played at home sites, 6-AAA will hold everything on the Bruins’ court. All four district champions (boys and girls) will be in action Friday night against the fourth-place district finishers.

The tournament continues through next week, with girls semifinals Monday and boys semifinals Tuesday. Finals are Wednesday (girls) and Thursday (boys).

• Old rivals meet: David Lipscomb will face a familiar foe in its Region 5-AA girls quarterfinal match-up Friday night. The Mustangs’ runnerup finish in District 10-AA sent them against 9-AA No. 3 team, rival Goodpasture.

Lipscomb is hoping history repeats itself more than three months later. It beat Goodpasture 55-44 in the Hall of Fame game back on Nov. 18, the season’s second contest for both teams.

• FRA time change: Franklin Road Academy is starting its home DII sectional games a bit early. The girls game vs. St. George’s will tip 6 p.m. Friday. The boys game vs. FACS will tip at 4 p.m. Saturday.

• Ensworth gets two: Top-ranked Ensworth had two of the three boys finalists from DII as the TSSAA announced the list for Mr. and Miss Basketball on Wednesday.

Corn Elder and Conor McDermott were named as DII-AA Mr. Basketball finalists from Ensworth. Nilan Hodge of USN was named as a DII-A finalist.

Franklin Road Academy’s Derica Wyatt, who won the award last year as a freshman, was again named as a finalist in DII-A. Brentwood Academy’s Taylor Reece is a DII-AA finalist. There were no finalists from Nashville in DI.

Winners will be announced following each state championship game in March.

• All-District 10-AA: Jaleel Queary of Maplewood (boys) and Meredith Roman of CPA (girls) were named regular season most valuable players in District 10-AA.

Drew Maddux and Becky Legate of regular season and tournament champions Christ Presbyterian Academy were named coaches of the year.
