Senior Diamond Wright scored 16 points as Hunters Lane pulled away late for a 65-52 win over Hillsboro and landed a berth in the Region 6-AAA finals Monday at Brentwood High.

Wright, a 5-foot-7 guard, scored eight first-quarter points, including two 3-pointers, as the Warriors jumped to an early 13-4 lead. Hillsboro closed to within one in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors ended the semifinal matchup on a 19-7 run.

“There was a lot of motivation for me,” Wright said. “This is the first time that I have been to sectionals. We haven’t been there since I was a freshman, and I wasn’t even on the team. I was so ready for this game.”

Deandrea Sawyers led all scorers with 18 for Hunters Lane, including two 3-pointers, and Erika Cook scored eight of her 12 points in the second half. Sawyers hit a huge 3, which gave the Warriors a 51-45 lead.

Nicole Bowers led Hillsboro with 17, while foul-plagued Isabelle Harrison added 16. Harrison picked up her third foul with 7:01, left in the second quarter and sat much of the game.

• Rice Cooking: Hunters Lane meets Ravenwood in Wednesday’s final after Jayne Rice hit a last-second put-back layup to give the Raptors a 39-37 win over Cane Ridge.

Senior Tasia Blue hit a 3-pointer at the head of the circle with 23 seconds left, which pulled Cane Ridge into a 37-37 tie.

With time running down, Ravenwood’s Logan Hodskins put up a shot that was blocked, then put up another that was well short. But Rice found herself all alone under the basket and calmly sank the game-winner at the buzzer.

Hodskins led Ravenwood with 12. Jaden Fite had 13 for Cane Ridge, which saw its Cinderella run in the tournaments come to an end.

• In the Region 5-AA semis at Vol State, David Lipscomb trounced Sycamore 61-41, while district regular season and tournament champ CPA had its season end with a 52-50 loss to Macon County.

David Lipscomb will meet Macon County in the final.
