Free agent quarterback Chris Simms will arrive in Nashville tonight and work out for the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday, an agent with knowledge of the situation confirmed to The City Paper.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher confirmed on his weekly television show Tuesday night that Simms would be signed to the roster, pending a workout and physical on Wednesday. When Simms is added to the roster, the Titans will have to remove a player from the 53-man roster.

Kerry Collins will start Sunday at Cincinnati in place of injured Vince Young, who suffered a sprained MCL in the season-opener against Jacksonville. Simms will become the team's No. 2 quarterback.

In a topsy-turvy day at Baptist Sports Park, the Titans worked out a trio of quarterbacks in Joey Harrington, Doug Johnson and Quinn Gray and also lost practice squad Ingle Martin to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Harrington and Johnson were both those were given a physical after their workouts on Tuesday.

The Titans also worked out a host of wide receivers on Tuesday, including Chad Jackson, David Kircus, Joe Horn, John Broussard, Glenn Martinez and Reche Caldwell

Simms was originally scheduled to work out for the New England Patriots on Monday, but after arriving in New England along with former Titan Tim Rattay, both players were told the Patriots had decided to go another direction.

Simms, like Young is a former Texas quarterback, and is the son of Phil Simms, the former New York Giants star.

He was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the end of training camp and also visited the Chiefs on Tuesday.

Simms was a third-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003, but has not played since 2006 when he suffered a serious spleen injury in the third game of the season.

Simms, a left-hander, spent all of 2007 on injured reserve with the Buccaneers.

FINNEGAN HONORED: Defensive back Cortland Finnegan, who picked off two David Garrard passes in a 17-10 win over Jacksonville, was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

CRAMER SIGNED: Fullback Casey Cramer, waived by the Titans in final cuts, has signed with the Miami Dolphins.

Interesting tidbit about Ingle Martin. Does anybody remember the raw talent that Chris Simms had back when Tennessee and others and(ultimately) Texas recruited him? But he was squirrelly at Texas, and not much to show with the Bucs. If Fisher's staff can do the development miracle, they may be able to have a good utility QB for the next several seasons. There's no way to tell right now. He looks like the only choice at this time.

After reading the article,it appears that Chris Simms was unaccepatable to the Chiefs so the Titans picked him up. It appears that Ingle Martin was unacceptable to the Titans and the Chiefs picked him up. By the way if anyone thinks Vince Young can throw interceptions just let this Chris Simms show them a thing or two.

Frank, I agree. In the last 3 games Simms played before he was injured he threw for 1 TD and 7 INT, with a QB rating of 46.
