Former Nashville Predators center Scott Nichol signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.
The Sharks will be the fifth NHL team for Nichol, who spent the past four seasons with Nashville. Exactly half of his 94 career points (47), including 24 of his 44 career goals, came in his 209 games with Nashville.
“Scott is an ultra-competitive by nature,” San Jose general manager Doug Wilson said in a release. “He utilizes his speed and compete-factor to be involved every time he steps on the ice. We’re very familiar with his game and we’re happy to have him on our team as opposed to playing against him.”
Nichol is the fourth Nashville player to sign elsewhere during the current free agency period. Defensemen Greg Zanon (Minnesota) and Ville Koistinen (Florida) and forward Vernon Fiddler (Phoenix) all agreed to terms on July 1.
