Vanderbilt has been picked to win the Southeastern Conference Eastern division in a vote by league baseball coaches, the SEC announced on Tuesday.
Arkansas was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the regular-season championship, along with the SEC West title. The Razorbacks, ranked as preseason No. 1 in three of the fourth national polls, earned nine first-place votes.
Vanderbilt, ranked as high as second nationally, received three first-place votes and was picked second for the overall championship, with Kentucky and LSU earning the other first-place votes.
In divisional voting, the Commodores received 89 of a possible 91 points and 12 first-place votes in the East. Florida was second, Kentucky and South Carolina each tied for third and received first-place votes, Georgia was picked fifth, Tennessee sixth and SEC newcomer Missouri seventh.
In the West, Arkansas earned 12-first place votes, LSU and Mississippi State followed with one each. Ole Miss was picked fourth, the league’s other newest team, Texas A&M, projected fifth, Alabama sixth and Auburn seventh.
Vanderbilt opens its season Friday with a three-game series against Long Beach State at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores went 35-28 last year, reached an NCAA Regional and the championship game of the SEC tournament and placed fourth in the SEC East.
