Coach Don Money will look to his bullpen to get outs late in games. In the early going of the 2010 season, it will be other members of the Nashville Sounds will look to some of those same players to show them the ins and outs of Greer Stadium and Middle Tennessee.
The Sounds announced their initial 2010 roster during the weekend, and four of the 11 players who were on Nashville’s 2009 roster are relief pitchers – John Axford, Tim Dillard, David Johnson and Chris Smith.
That’s twice as many as at any other spot on the field. There also are two catchers (Erick Almonte and Adam Heether), two infielders (Patrick Arlis and Angel Salome), two outfielders (Brendan Katin and Adam Stern) and one starting pitcher (Chase Wright) who are back.
Among the notable newcomers are left-handed pitcher Zach Braddock, the only top 10 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers’ system, according to Baseball America, and second baseman Eric Farris, who makes the jump to AAA from Class A ball.
The Sounds open the 2010 season against the Iowa Cubs at 6:35 p.m. (CDT) Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa. Their home opener is 7:05 p.m., April 16 against Iowa at Greer Stadium.
