Simms, 28, came to the Titans after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the end of the preseason. Simms had missed much of the previous two seasons after suffering a spleen injury early in the 2006 season.
Simms, a former University of Texas star and son of New York Giants great Phil Simms, spent most of last season as Tennessee's third-string quarterback behind Collins and Vince Young. He also spent a great deal of the season working on improving and regaining his strength after being weakened in the wake of having his spleen removed.
As Simms heads to the open market, there have been rumors of other teams having interest in him, including the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys.
how funny would it be if come monday the titans are w/o haynesworth, collins, jones, and simms?
Well, at least we have Rob Baronis. I think he has already proved himself as a winner. Didn't he kick something like 8 field goals on time because Vince couldn't score in the red zone?
Check the stats, caholt. Kerry Collins was the qb for that game (Houston).
BP, I think you're right. I think we'll lose them all.
I was a Packer fan for years until the Titans came to TN. I have lived here in TN all my life except for about 1 1/2 years when I was in college. That being said, how in the world do you keep a quarterback that " manages the game" instead of helping score? The titans MO is go down the field, kick field goals, and use the defense to try and keep the other team from getting touchdowns. That is why we always generally have low scoring games. And that is going to be hard now that we have let Haynesworth slip thru our fingers. Does no one remember the reason VY was put in to start with was because Kerry Collins was stinking up the field and now the titans act like he is their saviour. When Collins is washed up, they will find out the VY experiment was a waste of money. When is the staff of the titans going to see that a running first quarterback does not win Super Bowls? VY is not going to improve as a passer if they keep him on the bench another 5 years. He won in college using his legs and you cannot do that all the time in the NFL. And no matter what they think, teams will be on to him and shut him down. That is what started happening to him and that is why he got frustrated and did not want to play. I don't blame him, that is just his playing stlye. It did not work for Vick in Atlanta and it won't work for Young here. Anyone who knows enough about the NFL should already know that. Teams are going to have a "spy" that will key on Young all the time during a game.
