Already there has been speculation and talk that the Tennessee Titans should entertain the notion of bringing in wide receiver Terrell Owens.
Don’t bet on it.
According to my sources, the Titans don’t want any part of the talented but often troublemaking wide receiver who was just released by the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday night.
What are the chances of it? Think somewhere along the lines of Bluto’s grade-point average in Animal House. … Zero point zero.
Even at 36, Owens is still one of the NFL’s most dangerous wide receivers, but given that the Titans have had more than their fill of troubled talents (see Jones, Pacman), adding Owens certainly doesn’t fit into what was a mostly harmonious locker room the past couple of seasons.
He has already worn out welcomes in San Francisco, Philadelphia and now Dallas, and managed to throw his quarterback under the bus in varying ways at each stop.
Kerry Collins has overcome plenty in his NFL career to remain a competent NFL starter. Maybe the grizzled veteran could handle Owens’ constant chirping.
But heaven forbid if Owens ever had to be on the field together with Vince Young. The combination of Owens’ scathing anti-quarterback antics with Young’s sometimes errant throws and his fragile psyche is a recipe for disaster.
Yes, the Titans are one playmaking receiver away from perhaps going to a Super Bowl.
But there are drawbacks to Owens that come in addition to his erratic and mercurial behavior.
For one thing, he is not a crisp route runner, something Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger is a stickler for. Anyone who has ever witnessed a Titans practice knows how steamed Heimerdinger can get when a receiver isn’t in the right spot when the ball is delivered. He’s not one for a lot of freelancing, and that is something Owens has a reputation for doing.
And another, Owens was one of the leaders in dropped passes a year ago.
As for taking a flier on T.O., look for the Titans to just say no.
Duh!
I had rather have an 8 and 8 season than see the Titans lower themselves to think that Terrell Owens offered anything but grief.
Not taking anything away from T.O, you can probably put T.O on the slot with double coverage all day long and leave McCareins 1 on 1, and Gage 1 on 1, and T.O would probably end up with more catches than both of them. Anyway just a comment NO WAY TN will take a chance on T.O. The guy do have his issues with ego and stuff,he is also a prick but he is a heck of receiver!!
He wouldn't come to a small, hick market like the Titans. He wants to be in the media spotlight.
Sure, bring him on, and while we're at it, let's make gdiafante our new color analyst.Sorry, T.O., we have enough cowgirls around here as it is.
When I think I of Terrell Owens, I think of one thing. Hint: it's the same thing I think when I think of Randy Moss and now Chad Johnson...what waste of unbelievable potential! As for Terrell Owens coming to the Titans...I'd rather the Titans leave Nashville.
As ESPN analyst and former Cowboy great Darren Woodson said, every team that has won a championship has won it without TO.
I think he would be an asset to the team.
Hey gdiafante the Conventions and Visitors Bureau wants to talk with you about a job......in some other city!!! "Say no to T.O!" That might make a good bumper sticker.
don't worry about gdiafante, he puts other people down so he can feel better about himself. He screams of insecurity.
ycartrob, you are right. T.O would be an ass at our team. He's been an ass every where he's been. Hold up, you said asset? No way! He'd make VY cry!
I heard somewhere that T.O. had his best year during the first year with every team he played and was not a headcase during that year. Sign him for one year and hope for the best.
As a Nashville native living in Dallas I hear it all. The mindset here is, "Jerry Jones did what?!?!"T.O. is a playmaker, dropped passes or not.You think he would have dropped a redzone touchdown pass in the playoffs against Baltimore??(ALGE CRUMPLER)?No. If you people would rather see us go 8-8 or see the Titans leave Nashville, go away,we don't want you as fans.Although I don't beleive Management will go for it, I am for T.O. But I will stand behind any decision they make.Always have and always will. GO TITANS
According to some less than reliable or verifiable sources (for what it's worth) Terrell Owens and his agent were spotted at the Nashville airport this morning.http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=NFL&id=718&line=140911&spln=1
Chris Mortenson said on 104.5 yesterday (Thurs) that the Titans were one of two places that T.O. might wind up. I knew that was B.S.
T.O with one one tight behind his back, would have more receptions that all the titans receivers in the last past few yrs hands down!!! Bring him on on a 1 yr contract, he knows TN prioritis is to run the ball, so i bet he will be alright with that!!
We know Coach Whispering Jeff welcomes a troubled or challenging player. Give him a troubled draft pick who doubles as a clubhouse cancer and watch the transformation. (sarcasm)
OK, forgive me for playing devil's advocate here... First of all, you need a veteran disciplined head coach- the titans have that. You may argue the Titans failed with handling Pacman, but Pacman was really a different kind of monster. He wasn't going to be successful with anybody, anywhere. Next, you need a veteran quarterback that can defend himself to such antics that T.O. has been known for. There isn't a better choice in the NFL than Kerry Collins. Collins has been through it all. He is in the home stretch of a roller-coaster career and he is one deep threat superstar away from a super-bowl. T.O. is also staring down retirement. He won't be around long to share the field with a starting Vince Young. The Titans picked up a promising potential receiver in Nate Washington already. Why not seal the deal with a big time threat? I understand he's a franchise killer, but that won't happen with a franchise as disciplined as Tennessee's. I think it would be unwise to not at least entertain the option of acquiring Owens.
