Titans' free agent WR McCareins looking around

Tennessee Titans free agent receiver Justin McCareins could be taking his first visits of the offseason by the end of the week.

“There have been a couple of teams that have called about him and we’ll see what happens with it,” agent Cliff Brady said Tuesday.

McCareins returned to the Titans on a one-year deal last year and immediately moved into the starting lineup. McCareins at times was troubled by nagging injuries, but caught 30 passes for Tennessee for 412 yards while playing in 14 games. He also was widely regarded as the best blocking wide receiver on a Titans team that was focused mostly on running the football with Chris Johnson and LenDale White.

A return to the Titans is not out of the question for McCareins, although the Titans have yet to make any overtures toward his return.

“We talked with the Titans at the start of free agency, but I haven’t heard from the since. Frankly, I’m a little surprised that they haven’t called yet,” Brady said.

Tennessee has signed Nate Washington away from Pittsburgh as a free agent, but still needs help at the wide receiver position, perhaps making a run at Torry Holt, who was released late last week by the St. Louis Rams.

The Titans have only Washington and Justin Gage as experienced receivers on their rosters.

McCareins is terrible. Being at every home game but one this season, it appeared he took more plays off than he gave full effort in. Gage is solid and Washington should be fine; let McCareins go and try to upgrade.

Don'tCareins dropped more sure touchdown passes last year than any starting WR should be allowed to in a career! Only once did he catch the next one for a TD. Let him go!!!!Now how about Matt Jones(can you say emergency QB or trick play) or our old friend Drew (again a old QB)?

McCareins is just a very so-so player. I saw every Titans game last year, and to me he doesn't put his body on the line enough. My biggest memory of him was the 4th down play to keep a drive going against Texas, I believe. The ball was just barely overthrown by Collins, but McCareins with a little extra effort and lying out for the ball might have caught it. Replays showed a terrible effort. I've never seen him lay out for a pass. May be wrong, but I'm ready to move on.

Sorry, Justin, but you dropped too many last year. Good luck elsewhere.
