Titans strike a deal to keep a veteran defensive lineman

Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 12:36pm

The Tennessee Titans re-signed defensive end Keyunta Dawson on Thursday, less than a week before the start of free agency.

The 27-year-old was one of 17 players set to become an unrestricted free agent when the NFL’s new contract year begins Tuesday afternoon.

Dawson (6-foot-3, 254 pounds) originally signed with the Titans last January. He appeared in the first three games of 2012 and made five tackles, four in the Week 2 loss at San Diego. He sustained a hamstring injury early in Week 3 against Detroit and was placed on injured reserve three days later.

He is a reserve pass rusher who provides depth behind starting defensive ends Kamerion Wimbley and Derrick Morgan.

A seventh-round draft pick by Indianapolis in 2007, he played four seasons with the Colts and one with Detroit before he came to Tennessee.

Yawn. The Titans are irrelevant, and will be that way as long as Bud runs the show.

I hear Dawson is a player's player, a man's man, takes up space, and any other cliche sports talk and play-by-play personalities can use to distract us. This team is bad.

courier, you are soooo jealous of Plaster and company. Did they ban you from their show? I think what the problem really is, you dabble in radio and are jealous of the big boys. Give it a rest. Won't your favorite pass time be here soon?

Word on the street is that Dawson is well liked in the locker room, and brings a lunch pail attitude and mentality. He is also the first player to show up at Titans facility and the last to leave. Simply put, Dawson can't be denied. Next caller...
