The Tennessee Titans on Wednesday unveiled a commemorative 50th anniversary logo that will be used throughout the season on uniforms, memorabilia and other promotional platforms.

The logo incorporates design elements of the franchise’s beginnings in 1960 as the Houston Oilers, one of the founding teams of the American Football League, and those of the current incarnation, which was created prior to the 1999 season.

"We wanted to incorporate both franchise logos into our 50-year logo and I am really pleased with the results,” owner K.S. “Bud” Adams said in a statement. “The past 49 seasons have brought the fans and me great joy and at times great pain, but it has been a dream come true and a lot of hard work to own a team.”

The franchise’s history also will be recognized this fall with the creation of “heritage boards,” which will be installed at the main entrances of LP Field and will chronicle many of the franchise’s logos and marks, beginning with the original “Roughneck.”

Three times this season the Titans will wear throwback uniforms from the 1960 Oilers and that first season. That will occur once at home, in a road game reportedly against the New York Jets (who will wear the old New York Titans uniforms) and in the Aug. 9 Hall of Fame Game against the Buffalo Bills. The home game for the Titans to wear their throwbacks has yet to be announced, but it likely will be when the San Diego Chargers, another original AFL team, come to Nashville for a visit. The Bills are the only other original AFL team scheduled to visit LP Field this year.
