Tennessee State believes it bolstered its secondary with the addition of two Football Bowl Subdivision transfers, including one from LSU.

On Thursday, TSU coach Rod Reed announced the signings of LSU transfer Ronnie Vinson and Kansas transfer Chris Robinson — both defensive backs.

“I think both are welcomed additions to the secondary,” noted Reed. “We struggled a little bit there last year. We wanted to get size and speed and we did that. We look forward to see how this works out.”

Vinson arrives at TSU after two years with LSU. The New Orleans product redshirted in 2010 after suffering an injury in the third game. Last year, he played in seven games and made one tackle — in the Tigers’ SEC championship game victory over Georgia.

Vinson’s brother, Charles, played at TSU from 2003-06.

Robison redshirted at Kansas this past fall. While at Lake Mary High School in Sanford, Fla., he recorded 134 career tackles.

TSU went 5-6 in 2011 and allowed 442.7 yards per game.

The Tigers open the 2012 season on Sept. 1 against Florida A&M in the John Merritt Classic at LP Field.
