Ian Clark and Kortni Jones developed reputations as 3-point specialists during their college careers.
Now, they’ll show off their sharpshooting exploits at the 25th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships.
On Wednesday, it was announced both local players will participate in the 3-point contest, which will be held on April 4 at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The contest, a staple during Final Four week, will be aired live at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
Clark just finished his career as Belmont’s all-time NCAA era leader in points (1,920) and 3-pointers made (340). The Memphis native ranks third in the country this season in 3-point field-goal percentage (45.9). Clark was named the co-Ohio Valley Conference player of the year and shared the honors with Murray State’s Isaiah Canaan, who will also participate in the contest. Clark is the first Belmont player to participate in the contest.
Jones also wrapped her career at Middle Tennessee State with the most 3-pointers made (259). As a junior in 2011-12, she made a school-record 115, which is the 10th most in NCAA history. The Oak Ridge product led the Sun Belt Conference this year with 86 treys.
She is the second player — men’s or women’s — from MTSU to participate in either contest. In 2003, John ‘Helicopter’ Humphrey competed in the slam dunk contest.
“It’s a great opportunity not just for me, but for the program and the university,” Jones said. “It just goes to show how great of a system we have here at Middle Tennessee. I was able to showcase my 3-point shooting skills the last four years and it placed me in a great position to be selected for this contest. I'm extremely excited and ready to compete.”
