Vanderbilt golfer Marina Alex was named to the All-SEC second team and All-SEC Freshman team on Thursday, the SEC announced.

Alex led the Commodores with a 74.4 stroke average during the season. She finished sixth in her first collegiate event, which was the first of five top 20 finishes.

Last weekend she finished 17th at the SEC Championships and led Vanderbilt to a 10th-place finish.

"Marina really gives this team a spark and I think we all knew she was in for a special kind of year after making birdie on four of her final five holes in our first qualifier in September,” coach Greg Allen said. “She has proven that she can give us low scores and be a great leader. Having a freshman make the All-SEC team shows this program has a bright future.”
