Vanderbilt linebacker Chris Marve, the Southeastern Conference’s top returning tackler, was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list on Tuesday, the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club announced.
A total of 76 players, including 12 from the SEC, were named to the list.
The award is presented annually to the top defensive player in college football.
Marve, a junior out of Memphis, has recorded more than 100 tackles in each of his first two seasons with the Commodores. He had 121 in 2009, which was second in the SEC, and his 57 solo stops were a team-high.
He was a Freshman All-American and an SEC All-Freshman selection in 2008.
Already he has been named to a pair of preseason all-conference teams for 2010.
