Vanderbilt and Kentucky are likely to begin the 2011-12 college basketball season ranked among the nation's top 25 teams. Both also are leading contenders for the Southeastern Conference championship.
None of that was overlooked by ESPN when it announced its College GameDay schedule on Thursday.
The college basketball pregame show will come to Memorial Gymnasium for the first time on Feb. 12 for the Commodores’ showdown with Kentucky.
Vanderbilt was a part of College GameDay last year when the men’s and women’s basketball teams played a doubleheader at Tennessee in January.
The show will air live at 9 a.m. (CST) and then at 7 p.m., prior to the 8 p.m. tipoff. Commentators Rece Davis, Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps, Hubert Davis and Bob Knight will host the show.
“We are extremely excited to be a part of ESPN College GameDay,” Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings said. “Memorial Gym should be a terrific venue to have GameDay. Our players and coaching staff are definitely looking forward to it, and I know our fans will enjoy it and represent us well. Having GameDay is a tribute to what our players have accomplished and the excitement they have generated about our program.”
Vanderbilt went 23-11 last year and 9-7 in the SEC but fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats were 29-9, won the SEC tournament and reached the Final Four. Vanderbilt and Kentucky split last year’s series, with both teams winning on their home floor.
