Vanderbilt’s A.J. Ogilvy is one of 50 players named to the John R. Wooden Award watch list, which was announced Wednesday.

The 6-foot-10 center from Australia was a second-team all-conference selection in 2008-09 when he averaged 15.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game despite an illness and a foot injury, which hampered him for much of the season. In 2007-08 he was the SEC’s highest scoring freshman.

He is one of seven SEC’s players named to the preseason watch list. That group includes the University of Tennessee’s Tyler Smith and the University of Kentucky’s Patrick Patterson.

The Wooden Award is presented annually to the best college basketball player who also has maintained a 2.0 grade-point average and has made consistent progress toward a degree.

Ogilvy is majoring in economics at Vanderbilt.
