Vanderbilt senior forward Christina Wirth was named a third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection for 2008-09 on Monday.
Wirth is a five-time member of the Vanderbilt Dean’s List and a three-time member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. She has a 3.60 grade-point average in human and organizational development and currently is enrolled in a master’s degree program for nursing.
She leads the 19th-ranked Commodores (21-7, 10-3) in scoring (15.2 points per game), is second in rebounds (155), steals (44) and 3-point field goals (58).
She is the fourth VU player and the first since two-time recipient Zuzi Klimesova (2001 and 2002) to earn Academic All-America recognition.
The Academic All-America program was created and is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
