Vandy: No contact from Oklahoma State

Friday, April 11, 2008 at 3:07pm

Vanderbilt Vice Chancellor David Williams said Friday that Oklahoma State University has not requested permission to interview with Commodores men's basketball coach Kevin Stallings.

Various reports late this week, each without attribution, have listed Stallings as a candidate for the job at OSU, which became available after the resignation of former coach Sean Sutton earlier this month.

OSU offered the job this week to Kansas coach Bill Self, but he turned it down.

Stallings has led Vanderbilt to three NCAA Tournament appearances in nine years, including each of the past two seasons.

I hardly think that Oklahoma State is serious about Stallings.

What wouldn't OSU be interested, Frank? Wouldn't you think Kevin Stallings is quite a bit more accomplished than Sean Sutton?

Just what are Stallings accomplishments? The Sweet 16? The NIT? Great at home and lousy on the road?As good a coach as Stallings may be, his list of accomplishments will not excite the OSU faithful.

There's not another school in the SEC that has been to the NCAAT in 3 of the past 5 years...only Vanderbilt. However, IMHO, Coach Stallings is not "all about money" and with the success he's had and the recruits that are coming to Vandy, it's highly unlikely that he would leave for OSU.

Someone needs to check their facts UK has been to the dance since i think 1992 I think I at least know its the last 10 yrs at least. All though Vandy did demolish us this yerar (at VANDY) the most messed up gym in the NCAA.

still bitter, eh?

Just so you all know, we didn't publish this story to affirm Stallings' qualifications for the job. We published it because news reports in Oklahoma and Texas are mentioning Stallings as a candidate at OK State with no source to back it up.

BHait, you are a good writer. I always enjoy your take on sports so please do not be offended by my comments. Can you picture Stallings coaching in Stillwater,Oklahoma? Can you picture this guy recruiting a boy outside of Texas & Oklahoma?e Can you imagine with this guy's personality having a better place to coach than Vanderbilt?

I love these UT fans who have nothing better to do that to go write negative comments on every story that comes out about Vanderbilt.C'mon frank, tell us Brandt Snedeker's not very good.

By: Nick_Hornsby on 12/31/69 at 6:00

Gee, what would excite the OSU faithful? A coach with a drinking problem? No wonder I heard rumors that OSU was looking at Gillespie.BTW, Cowboy, did OSU make the dance this year?

Hey Frank, Stallings is a quality coach. He was good at Illinois State and he's good at Vandy. Every other year a name program courts him for an opening and he turns them down. If you cannot recognize that he's a quality coach, then you must not watch much basketball.
