The University of Tennessee has a new home in Nashville, as the Volunteers will be on WGFX-FM 104.5 FM The Zone.

"The Vol Network is very proud and excited that 104-5 The Zone will be the new home of the Tennessee Volunteers in the state capital,” said Steve Early, General Manager of IMG College/Vol Network. “The Zone's sports commitment and dominance in the marketplace made it 'the' choice for UT athletics and Vol Network programming.

"We are very excited about the daily exposure and coverage this will bring the University of Tennessee and a huge fan base in Middle Tennessee. The Vols and The Zone are going to be a terrific partnership and association."

The Zone already is the flagship station of the NHL Nashville Predators and recently took over as the flagship for the Tennessee Titans from sister station WKDF-FM 103.3.

The Volunteers had on WLAC-AM 1510 and its sister station WNRQ 105.9 FM. announced Wednesday a partnership with the University of Tennessee beginning with the 2010 season.

Vanderbilt University athletics, which had been on The Zone, is moving its coverage to WRQQ-FM 97.1.

The Zone will air every University of Tennessee football game, every men’s basketball game, VolCalls, daily updates from University of Tennessee play-by-play voice Bob Kesling, and other weekly Vol Network programming beginning in August.

“We are excited to partner with the most popular collegiate brand in the state of Tennessee and a program with such a rich history,” said Brad Willis, Program Director of 104-5 The Zone.

Tennessee athletics director Mike Hamilton issued a statement in the press release announcement as well regarding the new affiliation with The Zone.

"We are extremely excited about our partnership with 104.5 The Zone,” said Mike Hamilton, UT Director of Athletics. “Not only does this give us tremendous visibility in the Middle Tennessee market, but it's a great opportunity for Tennessee basketball to be aired on one of the top sports radio stations in the country. We look forward to a great partnership for years to come."

At least Vanderbilt won't have to worry about being pre-empted by the Predators or the Titans. Will UT be able to say the same???

Good news for the "Big Orange"! Can we get George to be a little more
excited by an out-of-town team? Just kidding

Personally I was hoping they'd dump The Preds so we wouldn't be force fed hockey coverage, but then that's what the SEARCH button is for right?

Considering that UT plays on Saturdays and very rarely on Sunday and the Titans and NFL play on Sundays and Monday nights and the NFL VERY RARELY PLAY ON SATURDAYS during the College Football Season, I don't think there will be any conflict between the Vols and Titans. And if the Zone bumped UT for the Predators, I don't think 104.5 the Zone's phones lines would be able to HANDLE the ANGRY CALLS from IRATE UT FANS!!! You would have a many more IRATE UT fans if the Preds bumped the Vols than you would have Irate PREDATOR FANS if UT BUMPS the Preds.
