Under highly unusual cirumstances, Vanderbilt added a late recruit Friday to its 2007-08 recruiting class in Charles Hinkle, a 6-foot-5 swingman from Los Alamitos, Calif. With classes set to begin nationwide in about a month, Hinkle remained unsigned this summer after prepping for one year at Hebron (Maine) Academy.
"It's very rare to get a player of Charles' caliber at this time of year," Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings said. "He's a good wing prospect, a good shooter with a strong feel for the game. We're excited to add him to the roster. Hopefully, he has a chance to be a good player."
A year before enrolling at Hebron Academy, Hinkle led Los Alamitos High to its first sectional championship. He is the fifth incoming Commodore freshman, joining center Andrew Ogilvy, forwards Darshawn McClellan and Andre Walker and guard Keegan Bell.
