Vanderbilt’s men’s golf team was one of 81 invited to compete in the six NCAA regional events, it was announced Monday.
The Commodores are one of 14 teams that will compete May 14-16 at The Club at Old Stone in Bowling Green, Ky. The field includes champions from the Pac 10 (Washington), ACC (Georgia Tech) and the Big East (Louisville) as well as local universities MTSU and Austin Peay.
The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams will earn spots in the NCAA Championship.
Vanderbilt is led by senior Jon Curran, who finished second in the regional in 2007 and eighth at the national championship.
“You really have to come out ready to play from Day One,” VU coach Tom Shaw said.. “You can't afford to slip back and start losing sight of teams in front of you.
“…This course should separate the real teams from the wanna-be's, and we hope we're not wanna-be's.”
