Vanderbilt’s Jence Rhoads was named to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference first team in voting by select SEC and national media members, the league announced Tuesday.
Rhoads, a point guard from Slippery Rock, Pa., averaged 13.8 points and 5.0 assists last year, and earned All-SEC first team recognition at the end of the season.
The Commodores were picked to finish third in the conference after a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Vanderbilt was 23-11, with a 9-7 record in league play.
Tennessee, the defending SEC champion, was picked to win the crown again. The Lady Vols return first-team selections Angie Bjorklund and Shekinna Stricklen, along with Kelley Cain, who was named to the second team.
Kentucky was selected to finish second and the Wildcats’ Victoria Dunlap, a Brentwood Academy graduate, was nabbed as the preseason player of the year.
