Continuing their hot run, the Vandy women shot down Ole Miss 79-64 before 2,022 at Memorial Gym in their SEC home opener Sunday afternoon.
Lady Commodore forward Zuzi Klimesova led four starters in double figures with 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting. Chantelle Anderson had 19 points, while Ashley McElhiney chipped in with 15. Freshman forward Jenni Benningfield followed suit with a double-double, getting 14 points to go with 15 rebounds. Klimesova almost made it two Vandy players with a double-double, coming up one rebound short with nine boards. McElhiney also paced the team with six assists.
The 12-2 (1-0 SEC) Commodores led at halftime 44-31, shooting 54 percent from the field in never letting Ole Miss (11-2, 0-1 SEC) threaten in the second half.
The Lady Commodores go up north to face Kentucky in Lexington Thursday night in their first SEC road trip, before continuing on to Auburn for a Sunday matinee.
