Belmont basketball standout Wes Burtner was named third-team Academic All-American on Tuesday.
Earlier, Burtner had been named to the first team District IV Academic All-America team, which qualified him for consideration on the national ballot. The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee The vote is conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Burtner, a junior majoring in finance, easily surpassed the minimum 3.20 grade-point average with a 3.77 GPA at Belmont.
