Belmont's Dan Soukup became the first Bruin ever named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team when Collegiate Baseball released its 2001 list.
The Fort Collins, Colo. native was an honorable mention selection after having one of the finest freshman campaigns in school history. Soukup led the Bruins with a .372 batting average while pounding out a team-best 58 hits. In addition, the first baseman paced the team in slugging percentage (.538), on-base percentage (.459), fielding percentage (.995) and multi-hit games (17).
"Dan really became our leader as the season progressed," said head coach Dave Jarvis. "We knew that he would be a great player, but he might have even played above our projections as a freshman."
