Vince Young practiced on Friday for the first time this week, testing his injured right quadriceps first in warm-ups and then in one scout-team period in the club’s final practice before departing to play the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Young was knocked out of last Sunday’s 13-10 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third quarter and did not return to the game.
He did not practice at all and only threw lightly to a trainer on Thursday, then ran the scout team during a defensive red zone period on Friday.
Young was not available to the media after Friday’s practice, but Titans coach Jeff Fisher said the quarterback’s condition had improved but that no final decision would be made until before game-time on Sunday.
“He was limited. He participated in warm-ups, threw the ball and participated in limited practice,” Fisher said. “That would imply that he’s improving. He will still be a game-time decision, but it was encouraging to see him on the field today.
“I think in his mind he targeted Friday, and he’s worked very hard to get comfortable to be able to do some things.”
For the third consecutive day, Kerry Collins ran the Titans first-team offense and pronounced himself ready to play on Sunday against the Texans if called up on.
“I’m ready to go. I feel like practice has gone well this week and I have a good feel for what we are going to do,” said Collins, who last started a regular season game Sept. 24, 2006 for the Titans at Miami.
Fisher said if Young is healthy enough to play on Sunday that he would prefer him to start the game, though he admitted there is the possibility that Collins could start and Young would be healthy enough to back him up.
Tennessee does not have a No. 3 quarterback on its 53-man roster, but has Ingle Martin on the practice squad.
As far as other injuries, running back Chris Brown was out of practice with a left ankle injury for the third consecutive workout, but has not been ruled out of the game, according to Fisher.
Fullback Ahmard Hall practiced fully on Friday after suffering a concussion in Sunday’s game.
Defensive end Antwan Odom, who has been plagued by a thigh injury, was also out of practice again Friday.
