Attorneys Gary Blackburn and John Ray Clemmons of Blackburn & McCune, PLLC filed a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal Without Prejudice today regarding a class action lawsuit against Metro Government and The Wackenhut Corporation.
The termination of the lawsuit came after Metro police retrieved the two computers with personal information of 337,000 registered voters stolen from the Metro Election Commission Office on Dec. 24, 2007. Since the personal information doesn’t appear to have been compromised, the attorneys said the suit was no longer necessary.
“Our goal was to protect registered voters’ compromised personal information and ensure that those responsible gave this matter the urgent attention it required,” said Gary Blackburn. “Thousands of voters in this city do their democratic duty and vote but have neither the means nor the resources to protect themselves against identity theft. We all deserve to have our personal information protected by those with whom we entrust so much responsibility.”
