Austin Peay ended Tennessee State's dream of a trip to the NCAA Tournament, beating the Tigers 82-64 in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship game on Saturday at Municipal Auditorium.
Austin Peay's Todd Babbington scored 24 points to lead the No. 1 seed Governors, who picked up an automatic big to the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers jumped out to a 12-8 lead early, but Austin Peay went on a 15-4 run led by Babbington's seven points. The Governors led at halftime 40-25 and slammed the door on the Tigers with a 9-0 run early in the half.
TSU, the No. 6 seed, had not played for the OVC Tournament championship since 1998. It also made its first semifinal appearance Friday since 1998. The Tigers have not won the tournament title since 1994.
Bruce Price scored 20 points to lead the Tigers in the semifinal on Friday, but the Govs almost completely took him out of the game from the start on Saturday, holding him to only two points.
Jerrell Houston scored 25 points for the Tigers.
