PLAY OF THE DAY: Tight end Alge Crumpler continues to show great hands and great concentration on the football. Crumpler took a Vince Young pass that safety Calvin Lowry had a bead on and hauled it in without breaking stride, even as Lowry flashed in front of him just before the catch.
TOPIC OF CONVERSATION: Chris Johnson continues to be the talk of training camp, especially in the wake of his 66-yard touchdown run in the preseason opener against the Rams. Johnson will now have another way to potentially bring excitement, as he will get a chance to return kickoffs Friday night against the Oakland Raiders.
WORTH NOTING: At least in a few of the drills on Monday, Quinton Ganther, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns, got reps in the group ahead of Chris Henry. However, it remains to be seen if the order in which the running backs will appear in Friday’s game will be change or how much they will be altered.
INJURIES: Receiver Justin McCareins (hamstring) returned to practice for the first time in 11 days, while receiver Roydell Williams started to practice, but was backed down because of soreness in his ankle. Punter Josh Miller (groin) was also back at practice, as was defensive tackle Tony Brown (shoulder). Those held out on Monday included kicker Rob Bironas (groin), cornerback Nick Harper (concussion), cornerback Cary Williams (knee), linebacker Kurt Campbell (ribs), tight end Dwayne Blakley (groin), defensive end Jevon Kearse (rest), tackle David Stewart (rest) and defensive end Antonio Johnson (rest).
KEEP AN EYE ON: Cornerback Eric King, who ended practice with an interception against Kerry Collins to end the two-minute drill and Monday’s practice.
