Angela Puleo, a two-year starter at Georgia, will transfer to Vanderbilt while two members of VU’s 2008-09 team will transfer out of the program, VU coach Melanie Balcomb [1] announced on Monday.
Reserve forward Chanel Chisholm and reserve guard Tia Gibbs both will leave Vanderbilt. No word was given on where either intends to play next season.
Puleo, a Maryville native, must sit out the 2009-10 campaign under NCAA transfer rules.
A 5-foot-9 guard, she was an SEC All-Freshman selection in 2007-08. In two seasons with the Lady Bulldogs she started 60 games and scored more than 500 points.
“We’re very excited to have Angela Puleo join our program,” Balcomb said in a release announcing the moves. “We knew she was an outstanding player coming out of high school, and we know she'll have a great impact on our team from the day she arrives.”
Chisholm, a sophomore, averaged 5.0 points in 34 appearances, and Gibbs,a freshman averaged 5.1 points in 29 contests last season, when VU went 26-9 [2] and advanced to the regional semifinal round of the NCAA Tournament.
